New Delhi, (10/4/2019): Supreme Court of India today dismissed the bail plea of RJD Supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav. He was sentenced a 14 year term jail in 2017 for a fodder scam.

Lalu’s bail plea was dismissed by a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, in which he said, “it is not inclined to enlarge Lalu on bail in the cases”.

Lalu Yadav claimed to be unhealthy and appealed for a bail because he was in jail for last 24 months. Replying to which the Supreme Court today dismissed his argument and said, “in comparison to the 14 year sentence awarded to him, 24 months were nothing”.

The bench also said, “merits of the case will be decided by the High Court, at present we are only hearing a bail plea”.

Yesterday the CBI also opposed the bail plea of Lalu Prasad, saying, that the ailing leader suddenly seems to be fit to attend political activities for the Lok Sabha Elections.

Lalu Prasad’s lawyer Kapil Sibal said, “there were no recoveries and no demand and the only major offence under which he was convicted was a conspiracy”.
