The Indian Community of Hong Kong came together in an impressive and well attended function organized by the Sindhi Association of Hong Kong and China on July 7, 2015 to honour and felicitate Hon’ble Shri L.K. Advani on being conferred “Padma Vibhushan”, one of India’s highest civilian honours. Hong Kong is home to the worlds’ most well-established and successful Sindhi community outside sub-continent, which is also well known for its hard work and its contributions to society.

Speaking on this occasion, Shri Advani fondly recalled his childhood in Sindh, and its description in his opus “My Country My Life”, which is a chronicle of his life dedicated to service of nation and people of India.  Shri Advani spoke about his other works as well, including “A Prisoner’s Scrapbook”, which is a collection of his writings in the course of 19 months of imprisonment during emergency, as well as two blog collections ‘My Take’ and ‘As I See It’.  He mentioned that his writings had been a source of great strength to him.  The books were released in Hong Kong in the presence of illustrious members of Indian community, such as Mr. K. Sital, Mr. Notan Tolani, Mr. Lal Hardasani and Mr. Bob Harilela, as well as Consul General of India Prashant Agrawal.  Shri Advani also recalled his efforts, along with former Prime Minister Shri A.B. Vajpayee, to have Sindhi included in the Schedule of Official languages. Advaniji called upon all members of Sindhi Community to preserve the language by teaching it to children and practicing at home.  He paid tribute to the achievements of Sindhi Community across the world and expressed his wish to connect with them wherever they were.

Those present were also treated to screening of a documentary film made by noted film maker and Advaniji’s daughter Ms. Pratibha Advani to commemorate the 50th wedding anniversary of Smt. Kamla Advani and Advaniji.   The film shows rich and moving accolades paid by eminent persons and leaders from all walks of life to the towering leadership, statesmanship and the highest standards of probity, simplicity, dedication and hard work that has been a hallmark of Advaniji’s long and illustrious career. The film provides loving glimpses of the affection with which Kamlaji treats not just her family but all visitors to her house, who draw sustenance from her hospitality.

The occasion also saw beautiful rendition of Advaniji’s favourite song Jyoti Kalash by local talent Ms. Supriya Mundra and Indian cultural performances presented by Chinese Hongkonger students.
