India takes a global role in Third Party Assisted Reproduction. Indian Society for Third Party ART – INSTAR is the national society actively working in the field of Third party ART and has taken lead of working towards the ethical practice of third party ART in India. Many efforts are done including formation of minimum compensation for surrogate mothers and egg donors etc. Consensus development efforts are done amongst the practioners about BEST PRACTICES in this field.

Gynecologists in India work with IUI (Intrauterine insemination) in their clinic as a first line of treatment for infertility.

Over 5 Lakh IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) Procedures are done annually in India making this the most common Assisted Reproduction procedure in India.

Dr. Shivani Sachdev Gour, Director of ISIS Hospital & IVF Expert says “The overall success rates of IUI are in the range of 15% per treatment and there is an urgent need to devise strategies to make this procedure simpler and more successful as well as provide the emotional support required to couples who are facing the problem of failure of infertility treatment”. Also, now Isis – IVF Centre has been opened in Noida, Sector 63 providing international facilties.

Dr Rakhi Singh President of Noida Obstetrics and Gynecology Society says “IUI increases 40% of the chance of the conception by the natural way of conception. It should be done under the correct supervision and person should go for the registered infertility clinics under the expertise according to ICMR guidelines”. The taboo of “UNREGULATED” is likely to go soon.

Dr. Sarita Goyal, President of Ghaziabad Obstetrics and Gynecology Society added that “This Technology which is new and promises higher success rates can only be used in those cases where the sperm sample is reasonably good. It’s down side is that it’s not useful in certain cases of poorer sperm samples for which conventional techniques are more useful”. It is useful for the knowledge up gradation.

The ICMR Guidelines in India place a lot of emphasis on psychological counselling and support which may be lacking in many clinics and should be recognised as important and should be offered by appropriately trained persons

All members of INSTAR, NOGS & GOGS are happy and support the work of ICMR in bringing together National guidelines for ART that will guide practice across India in Third Party Reproduction.
