Kolkata, August 25, 2023: A technical glitch in the Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express caused a delay of one hour on Friday morning, prompting the railways to replace it with the rake used for operating the Yuva Express, according to an official statement.
The glitch, related to the undergear of the Vande Bharat Express rake, led to the decision to replace it with a spare rake from the Yuva Express fleet, which was not well received by some passengers.
This unexpected change dashed their hopes of enjoying the modern amenities provided by the Vande Bharat Express. Passengers expressed disappointment, stating that the substituted Yuva Express rake lacked the expected amenities and did not meet their standards.
Governor CV Ananda Bose was among the passengers on the train, en route to Malda for a condolence visit to the families of the migrant workers who tragically lost their lives in the Mizoram rail bridge collapse.
BJP MP Sukanta Majumdar expressed his concern over the incident, especially given that technical glitches are not expected in the premier Vande Bharat Express rake. He announced his intention to discuss the matter with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who was scheduled to visit Kolkata on the same day. Majumdar, also the state BJP president, stated, “I will bring the matter to the notice of the railway minister.”
