New Delhi (India), 25th March 2023: All telecom companies will be urged by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to curb increasing number of spam calls. The spam calls have been a cause of nuisance to customers.

On March 27, the watchdog is anticipated to meet with service providers and urge them to use machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) methods as well as blockchain technology to cut down on unwanted calls.
TRAI is expected to investigate strategies through technological solutions, laws, directions, and close monitoring as part of a multifaceted approach to solving the issue.

A spokesperson of the watchdog said, “TRAI chairman P.D. Vaghela would hold a meeting with all telecom companies on March 27 to discuss ways to counter the continuing menace of unsolicited commercial communications (UCC) or unwanted text messages and calls.”

Vaghela presided over a joint committee of regulators (JCOR) meeting last month to aid UCC detect and implement countermeasures.

The JCOR, made up of the TRAI, the RBI, the Securities & Exchanges Board of India (Sebi), and the Ministry of Consumer Affairs (MoCA), has been tasked with developing a combined action plan to reduce financial fraud using telecom resources.
