UNION HOME MINISTER ASSURES DELHI BJP DELEGATION THAT CENTRE WILL ASK DELHI GOVT. TO EXTEND CONSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT & HELP TO MUNICIPAL CORPORATIONS

New Delhi, 8th February.  Delhi BJP President Sh. Satish Upadhyay accompanied by the Leader of Opposition in Assembly Sh. Vijendra Gupta and the Mayors of the 3 Municipal Corporations Sh. Subhash Arya, Sh. Ravinder Gupta & Sh. Harsh Malhotra today met the Union Home Minister Sh. Rajnath Singh.

The delegation apprised the Union Home Minister of how the Delhi Government which first created constitutional working controversies with the Lt. Governor & its own bureaucrats, is now not ready to fulfil its constitutional obligation of providing statutory funds to the municipal corporations leading to total collapse of civic services in the national capital.

The delegation brought to the knowledge of Sh. Rajnath Singh that the Delhi  Government has been denying even the pending funds as per the 3rd Delhi Finance Commission and has put on hold the implementation of the 4th Delhi Finance Commission recommendations on funds to the Municipal Corporations by imposing unconstitutional riders for central assistance.

The delegation assured the Union Home Minister that once the 4th D.F.C. recommendations are implemented & pending funds released by the Delhi Government, the Municipal Corporations will provide best possible civic services to the city.

Union Home Minister Sh. Rajnath Singh assured the delegation that he will direct the Secretary Union Territories to take up the matter with Delhi Government. He assured that the Centre will fulfil its obligation being the guardian for the national capital.

Sh. Rajnath Singh expressed concern over the breakdown of sanitation services in Delhi and said we will talk to Delhi Government to implement 4th Delhi Finance Commission recommendations so as to find a permanent solution to the civic problems of the citizens and salary concerns of the municipal employees.
