Uttar Pradesh meat sellers turn into tea sellers for daily income amid crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses
Muzaffarnagar, March 30: With no source of income in view of the recent crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses, meat sellers in Uttar Pradesh have now started turning into meat sellers. According to ANI, three meat sellers in Muzaffarnagar turned to tea business, claiming that their shops have been closed even as they had licences. “My meat shop has been forcefully closed even when I had proper licence. I’m forced to sell tea now,” said Nazakat, a Muzaffarnagar resident, as quoted by ANI.
Meanwhile, the indefinite strike called by meat sellers in Uttar Pradesh continues for the fourth day on Thursday, leading to shortage of meat across the state. There have been reports of people having forced to serve vegetarian food at weddings due to shortage of chicken and meat. On Wednesday, vegetable biryani was served at a Muslim mass wedding in Moradabad due to shortage of chicken and meat. Similarly, in another incident in Moradabad, a man failed to get police permission for serving beef to guests at his daughter’s engagement function. The police reportedly asked him to make do with chicken.
On the other hand, the crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses has also spread to other states including Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. In Jharkhand, many illegal slaughterhouses were closed down in Ranchi as the 72 hours ultimatum given by the state government ended on Thursday.
