Virat Kohli Becomes Highest Scorer in T20 World Cup History

Nov 2, 2022: On Wednesday, Virat Kohli added another record to his achievements as he became the top run scorer in the history of T20 World Cup during India’s Group 2 match against Bangladesh.

Kohli ended up scoring a 64 off 44 balls to help lead India to a total of 184/6 against Bangladesh. When Virat hit his 16th run in the match, he overtook former Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardhane to become the top run-getter.

Mahela Jayawardhane had scored 1016 runs in 31 winnings. Meanwhile, Kohli took 23 innings to surpass former Sri Lankan captain’s record.

Virat Kohli’s 64 off 44 balls is also his third half-century in the ongoing tournament and his 13th T20 World Cup half century. Currently, he is the leading run-scorer across T20 World Cups (1065), T20Is (3932) and IPLs (6624).
