New Delhi (India), 19th April 2023: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has vehemently denied claims made by senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari that she had dialed Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the Election Commission’s decision to revoke the Trinamool Congress (TMC) national party status.

Speaking at a rally in Hooghly district, Adhikari had alleged that Banerjee had made a direct appeal to Shah to revoke the decision, but her efforts had yielded no result.

Banerjee, however, has refuted these allegations and challenged Adhikari to provide evidence to support his claims. The TMC supremo has even gone as far as to state that she would resign if it were proven that she had indeed called Shah on this matter.

The TMC has also condemned Adhikari’s accusations, calling them baseless and a deliberate attempt to tarnish Banerjee’s reputation. The party has vowed to explore legal options to bring out the truth and expose Adhikari’s claims.

While the Election Commission’s decision to revoke TMC’s national party status has generated controversy, Banerjee has affirmed that her party’s name will remain the All India Trinamool Congress. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh has dismissed the decision as “notional,” asserting that it will have no bearing on the party’s growth or prospects.

With the West Bengal state assembly elections still fresh in people’s minds, this latest episode underscores the intense political rivalry and polarization that continue to grip the state.
