Bengaluru(India), 11/08/23: Wipro, the Indian IT services business, has named financial services sector veteran NS Kannan to its Board of Directors for a five-year term beginning October 1, 2023, subject to shareholder approval.
Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji commented on the matter and stated, “We are pleased to have Kannan on our Board. Kannan is a veteran of the financial services industry, and Wipro will greatly benefit from his leadership experience, and expertise across finance, strategy, corporate governance, risk management, and beyond.”
Kannan will join the board as an Independent Director. He has worked in the financial services industry for almost 30 years, including banking and insurance. He just retired from his position as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Co. Ltd.
Kannan commented on his appointment, “I am excited and honoured to join the board of Wipro, an iconic values and purpose-driven company that is a key technology partner to some of the most respected clients globally. I look forward to contributing to its next phase of growth and impact.”
Previously, the financial services sector veteran held a number of executive positions within the ICICI group, including Executive Director and CFO of ICICI Bank. He has also served as Chairman and Non-Executive Director of several ICICI group firms.
Kannan has also served on several committees formed by the Government of India and regulatory bodies, including being appointed by the RBI as an advisor to resolve DHFL as the First Financial Service Provider under the Indian Bankruptcy Code, being a member of SEBI’s Corporate Bonds and Securitisation Advisory Committee, and being the Chairman of the Regulatory Review Committee formed by Life & General Insurance Councils.
He also served on the IRDAI Insurance Advisory Committee and the RBI Steering Committee on the adoption of Indian Accounting Standards. Kannan has a graduation degree in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Trichy, is an ICFAI-certified Chartered Financial Analyst, and has a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from IIM Bangalore.
