Yeddyurappa after Amit Shah exposes the real face of BJP

The nomination of former Karnataka chief minister Mr BS Yeddyurappa as BJP vice-president on Saturday, barely five weeks after Mr Amit Shah was anointed the BJP chief, has made it clear that the BJP has completely compromised with corruption and criminalization of politics.

Mr Yeddyurappa, who was forced to resign as chief minister in 2011 following serious charges of corruption against him, has in his affidavit for the Lok Sabha elections held earlier this year, himself stated that 14 cases of corruption are pending against him.

According to Mr Yeddyurappa himself, these cases have been registered under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The appointment of those facing serious charges of corruption and criminalization as BJP office bearers, cannot be termed as the party’s internal matter, since these office bearers would be taking part in important deliberations like all-party meetings on these issues.

It would be an insult to democracy if leaders such as Mr Shah and Mr Yeddyurappa were to represent their party at meetings called by constitutional bodies like the Election Commission on suggesting ways to debar criminals and those facing charges for having committed offences punishable for more than two years imprisonment.

What signal is the BJP trying to give to the nation by announcing office bearers facing such serious charges ?

The BJP had in the first place sent a dangerous signal for the democracy by making Mr Shah as its party chief, since he is an accused in a case of murder, kidnapping and destruction of evidence.

What can be more shameful that the BJP has termed the alleged involvement of Mr Shah in cases of fake encounters when he was the minister of state for home in Gujarat, as a political conspiracy, despite the Gujarat government having itself admitted in the Supreme Court that the encounters of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, Kausar Bi and Tulsiram Prajapati were fake.

The Aam Aadmi Party will keep raising its voice against corruption and criminalization of politics and will expose the hypocrisy of BJP, which promises to free the country of these problems, but in reality does exactly the opposite. (ENDS)
