‘YMCA University is presently having strength of about 2600 students spread over all the streams of Under Graduate as well as Post Graduate courses. We are looking forward to increase this number to 3000 in the next one year and further to 4000 in a matter of two years, ‘said Dinesh Agrawal, Vice Chancellor of the University. Vice Chancellor Sh. Dinesh Agrawal was interacting with the members of ‘Social media Journalists Association’ headed by the president Saurabh Bhardwaj.

51 year old Dinesh Agrawal is an energetic man who believes in results and not only attempts.  After assuming the charge as a Vice Chancellor of YMCA University in the month of November 2015, he has taken a stock of the ground realities of the infrastructure, study facilities, hostel conditions and the staff quarters in the university campus. He said that most of the universities in the country are spread over an area of more than 200 acres. But in case of YMCA the situation is different.  It was started as an engineering college under an Indo-German project imparting a sandwich course in the year 1969 and remained affiliated to government universities. However, in the year 2009 it was upgraded to a separate university and now has a range of courses not on in graduate courses but also is running 12 courses in post graduate streams.

Speaking about the expansion programs in line, the Vice Chancellor said, “In spite of being located on the national highway, the most premium space in the city, the university is finding hard to expand due to shortage of available space. While the university is having full support of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, the availability of land in nearby area doesn’t seem to be feasible. Hence, I have suggested the building committee to expand the university vertical instead of finding the option of horizontal expansion, added Dinesh Agrawal.  He said that he has ensured that the playground available with the university is left outside the scope of land available under construction because the space is needed to groom the sports abilities of the students.

Talking about the future of the university the Vice Chancellor said, “I assured the Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar that I would be trying to make it the top university not only of the state but of the country’.  He said that he would be staying in the university campus only and would be available round the clock. Dinesh Agrawal said that the university is equipped with hands-on training to the students by way of having good workshop infrastructure. However, on the front of research work the university needs to beef up its effort.  At present there is an average of one research work being undertaken in a year which is targeted to be at least ten in a year, added Dinesh Agrawal.  He said that it is the workshop facility that empowers the students passing out with the abilities that has maintained the record of 100% placement all through these years.

Dinesh Agrawal, while interacting with the members of Social Media Journalists Association, was very optimistic of participation of alumni of the university too. He named some alumni including Sunil Bharti Mittal, Raj Bhatia, Naveen Sood, Anil Bhardwaj etc. that have made the institute proud. He said that he is looking forward to invite the alumni for extending their participation in not only enhancing the levels of education at the institute but also contributing their suggestions for the betterment of the university. He said that he is looking forward to get these alumni honoured on different occasions.

On the front of sports, the vice chancellor expressed proud of having a strong team of Kabaddi performing well at the national level. He said that it is his objective to provide right platform to students having strengths in other sports too.
