1.47 Cr voters to cast vote in Delhi Assembly Elections

New Delhi (05/02/2020): Around 1 Crore 50 lakh general category voters and 2,32,815 first-time voters will be casting their vote in upcoming Delhi’s Assembly Polls.

The voting will begin at 8:00 AM and it will continue till 6:00 PM, on February 8th.

Addressing media in New Delhi today, Chief electoral officer, Ranbir Singh stated, 2691 voters of PwD categories and Senior citizens above 80 years of age have already casted their votes using the postal ballot.

Responding to a question about the voting scenario at the sensitive area of Shaheen Bagh, the CEO said that he had himself observed the situation there and no voter will face any sort of trouble and fear while going to vote around Shaheen Bagh.

He said all the stations and Polling booths at Shaheen Bagh have been put under critical category.

He also said, the situation there is monitored through webcasting and paramilitary forces will be deployed around Shaheen Bagh and all critical stations in the capital.

A total of 2.50 Lakh security officials and 1.25 Lakh Civil Election Officials will be deployed in the 13,501 Polling booths at 2688 locations in the Capital.

There are about 150 voters in Delhi whose age is more than 100 years, revealed CEO Delhi. The Election Commission said that after the process of verification, the final data of Delhi voters will be released.

The Election Commission is currently completing the process of physical variation of people over 100 years old.

Mr Singh said that if the voters’s age is more than 100 years, all the facilities will be given, which were given at the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
