A bridge which has been built across the Hindon river between Greater Noida’s sector 1 and Noida’s sector 118, still awaits to be used.
Construction work on this bridge got completed in March 2016 but Since March 2016, the concerned authority could not construct a 1-km stretch to connect the bridge with the existing roads in Noida’s Sector 118. The Noida and Greater Noida authorities spent a combined ₹52 crore on construction of this bridge, which remains unused because of lack of the connecting road.
“Officials do not care for the public facing traffic congestion on existing routes. If the bridge was built to improve connectivity, why is the approach road yet to be constructed?” said Davendra Singh, a resident of Sector 77.
Rajiv Tyagi, the General Manager of Greater Noida authority, said, “If the small stretch is built then motorists travelling between Noida and Greater Noida will use the same. We had completed our job in March 2016. Now, it is up to the Noida authority to do its job and open the facility. “The Noida authority needs to purchase 1,12,000 sq m land from farmers to construct the approach road. The authority had in 2015 fixed a rate of ₹3,500 per sq m to purchase the land. Thousands of commuters who face congestion during the peak hour will be immensely benefited by this much awaited bridge”, officials said.
On the other hand, officials of the Noida authority said that they are in talks with farmers to acquire land for constructing the approach road. “We will build this road soon after sorting out all land-related issues,” said Hom Singh, chief engineer of the Noida authority.
