With 2.64lakh new Covid cases, India records highest infection in 239 days

INDIA (14/01/2022): India reported 2,64,202 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 6.7% higher than the previous day and the highest in 239 days, said the Ministry of health and family welfare on Friday morning.

According to the release, deaths from the virus came down from the previous day with 315 new fatalities reported on Thursday, the third consecutive day of 300-plus deaths. With this, the overall death toll reached 4,85,350 while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.33%, as per the health ministry.

The country is currently dealing with a strong third wave of Covid-19.
