New Delhi (India), 25th April 2023: Over 1000 delivery professionals have reportedly left Zomato’s rapid commerce platform Blinkit and joined hands with rivals including Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, and BB Now. The protest by the delivery executives against the revised compensation structure at Blinkit served as the catalyst for the development.

According to an ET article, Blinkit had more than 3000 delivery partners working in Delhi-NCR before to the strike. However now one-third of its delivery executives have left to work for rival rapid commerce companies just a week into the strike.

A source while talking to ET stated, “It is difficult to pinpoint how many would be there with Blinkit now because the company has been signing on new delivery workers as well in the last week.”

A few days prior, due to the strike called by the delivery executives of Blinkit, rapid commerce platforms like BigBasket, Zepto, and Instamart saw a 25–50% rise in their daily orders.

Blinkit had changed the fixed reward for delivery executives from INR 25 to INR 15 on every delivery earlier this month. The delivery executives protested the decision by staging strikes around Delhi-NCR. More than 100 of its dark stores in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Greater Noida, and Faridabad were temporarily closed as a result of the protest.

Recently, Zomato was questioned by Indian stock exchanges about the financial effects of the protest. In response, Zomato released a statement claiming that the interruption (strike) would have a negative effect on sales by less than 1%.
