Noida Airport Sets Sights on International Flights by December, Eyes Bigger Role in NCR Economy

Greater Noida News (21 September 2026): Noida International Airport is preparing to enter a new phase of expansion, with international passenger services targeted for commencement before the end of 2026. After beginning domestic commercial operations in June, the airport is now working on widening its flight network, increasing passenger movement, strengthening surface connectivity and building partnerships with international airlines.

Noida International Airport CEO Nitu Samra, in a recent interaction with Fortune India, said the launch of international passenger operations remains among the airport’s key priorities for the current year. She indicated that the process is being taken forward in coordination with concerned authorities and airline partners.

The airport’s international expansion will ultimately depend on regulatory clearances, airline decisions, operational preparedness and the level of demand on proposed routes.

From five destinations to a 15-city network

The airport’s domestic network has expanded since commercial services began on June 15, 2026. From an initial network covering five destinations, connectivity has now grown to 15 destinations, with approximately 35 flights operating on an average day.

Passenger numbers have also shown a sharp increase during the initial months. However, the airport’s management has pointed out that a newly opened aviation facility requires time for routes to mature and for airlines to progressively increase their operations.

Airline fleet availability, route economics, passenger preferences and the pace at which carriers deploy capacity are among the factors influencing traffic growth.

Rather than measuring the airport’s performance only through immediate passenger numbers, the current emphasis is on establishing a stable network capable of supporting sustained growth.

International connectivity likely to be the next big step

The proposed introduction of international flights could significantly broaden the airport’s role in the Delhi-NCR aviation market.

According to Samra, discussions are underway with airlines serving important overseas markets. The Middle East and Southeast Asia are among the international regions being explored, given their relevance to travellers from northern India.

However, the airport has not yet disclosed a confirmed list of international destinations or carriers. Such announcements will be made by airlines after completing their commercial and operational planning.

The airport is simultaneously working through the regulatory and operational requirements necessary for international passenger handling.

Airport focuses on the complete passenger journey

Airport connectivity is being treated as a broader issue than simply providing flights. The management is also focusing on how passengers reach the terminal and continue their journey after landing.

A combination of airport taxis, app-based mobility services, rental vehicles and public transport options is being developed to serve passengers travelling from different parts of the NCR and neighbouring states.

Bus services provide links to several cities in Uttar Pradesh, while Haryana Roadways has introduced connectivity towards Faridabad and Palwal.

Delhi-bound passengers are also expected to benefit from electric bus services connecting the airport with major transport points, including Kashmere Gate, Anand Vihar and New Delhi Railway Station.

Another important link is the electric bus connection between the airport and the UPSRTC facility at Sector 35 in Noida. From there, passengers can access a much wider intercity bus network covering cities such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Haridwar and Dehradun.

The airport has also partnered with redBus to facilitate access to intercity coach services through online booking and tracking facilities.

NIA and IGI to serve a wider NCR aviation market

The emergence of Noida International Airport adds another major aviation gateway to the NCR, alongside Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Rather than viewing airport development purely through the lens of competition, NIA’s management has highlighted its objective of expanding overall aviation capacity and giving passengers another connectivity option.

The airport is seeking to build a broad airline network while improving road and public transport access. Passenger convenience, digital services and efficient terminal operations are also being placed at the centre of its development strategy.

Cargo could become a major economic driver

Passenger aviation is only one part of the airport’s long-term plan. Cargo and logistics are expected to play an important role in connecting the Yamuna Expressway region with national and international markets.

The development of cargo infrastructure could support industries requiring faster movement of high-value and time-sensitive goods. This could include manufacturing, e-commerce, logistics and other export-oriented sectors.

The airport’s management believes that better air connectivity, combined with improving road infrastructure, can encourage new industrial and commercial activity around the airport.

Yamuna Expressway region positioned for wider economic growth

The airport is being developed alongside a rapidly expanding industrial and infrastructure ecosystem around the Yamuna Expressway.

Over the coming years, increased passenger traffic, international routes and cargo activity could create additional demand for logistics facilities, warehousing, hospitality, commercial establishments and other supporting businesses.

The airport’s wider economic impact is therefore expected to extend beyond its terminal boundaries.

Three to five years could establish the airport’s long-term trajectory

The coming three to five years will be important for determining the airport’s position within the region’s aviation and economic landscape.

The key indicators will include the pace of passenger growth, expansion of domestic and international connectivity, development of cargo operations, airline participation and the emergence of supporting industrial and commercial investments.

Employment generation and improvements in regional accessibility will also form an important part of the airport’s wider impact.

With domestic services already underway and international passenger operations being targeted for the end of 2026, Noida International Airport is moving from its initial launch phase towards a broader growth stage. The airport’s next challenge will be to translate its infrastructure and geographic advantage into a mature aviation network while simultaneously developing the connectivity and logistics ecosystem required to support the economic growth of the wider Yamuna Expressway region.
