Greater Noida (14/05/2026): The third edition of Bharat Shiksha Expo 2026 was inaugurated at the India Expo Centre and Mart with the participation of leading academicians, policymakers, universities, industry experts, education innovators, and students from across the country.
Sudeep Sarcar CEO India Expo said that The three-day mega education event aims to provide a comprehensive platform for students, parents, educational institutions, EdTech companies, career counsellors, and industry leaders to discuss the future of education, skill development, innovation, entrepreneurship, and employability in India.
Chief Guest Dr. Sandeep Singh Kaura, Adviser to the National Skill Development Corporation for the Skill India International Mission under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, emphasized that India’s young workforce is the nation’s greatest strength and that skill development is the key to transforming India into a global superpower.
Dr. Kaura referred to former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and recalled his vision that India does not need a special “design” to become a superpower, but rather focused efforts on skilling and upskilling its youth.
“Countries across the world are looking towards India for a skilled young workforce. This demographic strength is India’s biggest opportunity,” Dr. Kaura said.

He highlighted that although a skilling ecosystem is being developed at national and international levels, India still faces major challenges in higher education and employability.
According to him, India’s Gross Enrollment Ratio in higher education remains around 28–29%, meaning a large section of youth directly enters the workforce without adequate skill training. He further pointed out that nearly 85% of students in higher education pursue conventional degree programmes without clear employment pathways, while many graduates from professional education institutions also struggle with employability.
Speaking on the National Education Policy 2020, Dr. Kaura observed that while NEP is widely discussed at conferences and academic forums, there is still a lack of deep understanding and effective implementation.
He congratulated Dr. Jameen Khan, Professor Yunus Rana, and their team for presenting important and practical dimensions of the New Education Policy and promoting an ecosystem focused on employability, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Kaura stressed that universities must work collectively to create not only job seekers but also job creators. He emphasized that stronger collaboration between academia and industry is essential to ensure that educational curricula remain aligned with evolving industry requirements.
Highlighting the scale of expansion needed in India’s higher education sector, he stated that the country may require nearly 1,200 additional universities in the coming years if it aims to raise the Gross Enrollment Ratio beyond 50%.
“Simply opening new universities will not solve the problem. The curriculum must match industry needs, and industry-academia collaboration will play a defining role in shaping India’s future,” he added.
Dr. Kaura’s address served as a strong call for collective efforts toward building a skilled, employable, innovative, and globally competitive India.
