Teachers Need Emotional Support & Empowerment to Build Viksit Bharat by 2047: Kanchan Kumari | DWPS

Greater Noida News (06 September 2026): The evolving role of teachers, the impact of artificial intelligence on education, the growing contribution of private universities, public-private partnerships in research, and the long-term development of Greater Noida’s Knowledge Park were among the key issues discussed at the Bharat Shiksha Expo Initiative – Senior Educationists’ Round-Table, organised on the occasion of Teachers’ Day 2026.

Organised by India Expo Mart & Centre in association with TEN NEWS NETWORK, the high-level dialogue was held on the theme “Teachers as Catalysts for a Developed India” and brought together senior educationists and institutional leaders to deliberate on the future of India’s education and knowledge ecosystem.

Teachers’ Role Extending Beyond Academics

Speaking at the round-table, Kanchan Kumari, Director, Delhi World Public School (DWPS), highlighted the changing responsibilities of teachers under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. She said educators are increasingly expected to nurture critical thinking, decision-making, creativity and experiential learning among students.

Kanchan Kumari emphasised that teachers today are dealing with challenges that extend far beyond academics. They are increasingly required to address students’ emotional concerns, peer pressure and parental expectations while creating a supportive environment for learning and personal development.

She also highlighted the additional responsibilities shouldered by teachers, particularly women educators, who often manage lesson preparation, parent interactions, student counselling and administrative responsibilities alongside family commitments.

Despite their growing responsibilities, Kumari said the contribution of teachers is not always adequately recognised. She called for greater respect, recognition and institutional support for educators from families, schools and authorities.

AI Is Changing the Education Landscape

Kanchan Kumari also raised concerns over the growing use of artificial intelligence in education, particularly as students increasingly turn to AI tools for assignments and academic work.

She said the growing presence of AI makes it even more important for teachers to move beyond conventional teaching approaches and focus on the human dimensions of education, including emotional intelligence, values, critical thinking and personal interaction.

“Teachers should be empowered to make decisions within their institutions and provided with adequate moral, emotional and professional support,” she stressed, underlining the need to strengthen teachers rather than simply increasing their responsibilities.

Teachers Crucial to India’s 2047 Vision

Kanchan said that if India is to achieve its vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047, teachers must be recognised as key catalysts of social transformation.

Sharing initiatives undertaken by her institution, she said teachers are assigned to support students from financially weaker backgrounds, including children of institutional employees. Educators help these students strengthen foundational skills such as reading and writing and provide additional academic support.

She further highlighted the school’s meditation centre, where teachers and students can participate in meditation, journal writing, sound healing and other wellness activities aimed at promoting mental wellbeing.

She also stressed the need to change the way society perceives education. She questioned how educators and institutions can communicate more effectively with parents and students about the true purpose of learning. According to her, education should not be viewed merely as a pathway to better marks or employment, but as a means of transforming, empowering and developing individuals.

The Round-Table was presided over by Dr. H. Chaturvedi, Pro-Chancellor, IILM University, Greater Noida, Sudeep Sarcar, CEO, India Expo Mart and attended by distinguished senior educationists and institutional leaders from leading universities, colleges and schools.

The discussions reinforced a central message of the Bharat Shiksha initiative: India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation will depend not only on expanding access to education, but also on improving quality, strengthening research, empowering teachers and ensuring that technology-driven transformation reaches every layer of the education system.
