#aamaadmiparty : NHRC had not given any direction to the Delhi Police for taking any action against former Delhi law minister

It is extremely surprising and shocking that many TV news channels ran an unverified news story throughout the day and wrongly attributed it to the National Human Rights Commission.

The NHRC press release, available on its website, makes it clear that the commission had not given any direction to the Delhi Police for taking any action against former Delhi law minister Mr Somnath Bharti.

These channels not only made no effort to cross-check the facts and merely relied on a falsehood spread by an individual known for his links with the Congress party, but also wanted the Aam Aadmi Party’s reaction on a development that never took place.

There is no doubt that freedom of media is an absolute right and needs to be further strengthened, but it is sad that no attempt was made to correct the wrong impression created by a false information provided by mischievious elements with a deliberate design to defame the Aam Aadmi Party.

Equally shocking is the attempt by some news channels and websites to create a fictitious candidate of the AAP in Allahabad. The party has so far not declared any candidate from that seat and the reports about a candidate riding some animal were nothing more than an advance April Fool’s joke.

The AAP appeals to all sections to verify facts before jumping the gun on any issue which can lead to an avoidable embarrassment later on.

The party has no hesitation in responding to any issue concerning its politics and policies, provided the information sought is based on facts and not fiction.
