After Soros’s criticism of PM Modi, BJP questions Congress link with American billionaire

Delhi (India), February 18, 2023: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has slammed the Congress over its alleged association with the American billionaire, George Soros. The BJP has been targeting the Congress after Soros made a statement on India’s democracy, with BJP leaders trending the hashtag “Soros Gang” on Twitter and linking the Congress to the American billionaire.
The BJP leaders have shared photos of Salil Shetty, Global Vice President of Open Society Foundations, which is backed by Soros, walking with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
BJP leaders such as Gaurav Bhatia and Shehzad Poonawalla have questioned the Congress’s “rishta” (relationship) with George Soros.
Salil Shetty was reportedly involved in the anti-CAA protests and had batted for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, as per old tweets dug out.
Congress leader P. Chidambaram had commented on the matter, saying that he did not agree with what George Soros said but that to label his remarks as an “attempt to topple the democratically elected government in India” was unacceptable.
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar had also commented on George Soros, describing him as “old, rich, opinionated, and dangerous.”
People from various walks had joined the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra, including Salil Shetty. Open Society Foundations is a grantmaking network founded and chaired by George Soros.
