Crane falls on a bicycle in Greater Noida, 1 woman died

Greater Noida (17/3/2019) : A 35-year-old woman was crushed to death in Greater Noida on Saturday when a crane fell on her while she was travelling with her husband on a bicycle. The woman was identified as Naurangi Devi (35), from Sasaram in Bihar, who was employed as a construction worker in Site 5 of Surajpur in Greater Noida.

According to the police, the woman lived in the slums near Site 5 with her husband. They said the incident took place around 9.30am when she and her husband, 40-year-old Bideshwari Lal who is also from Sasaram in Bihar, were travelling towards a construction site in Site 5 to work. A large sized vehicle (truck), with a crane loaded on it, was driving on the side of the road.



“We received information around 9.40am regarding an accident at Site 5 and a team was rushed. The woman was taken to a nearby private hospital where she was declared brought dead. We have sent her body for postmortem and its reports are awaited. As per the woman’s husband, Devi was sitting on the carrier seat on the bicycle and Lal was riding it. The vehicle with the crane was driving on the side of the road when suddenly the crane fell on to the cycle. While Lal jumped and saved his life, Devi came directly under the crane and was crushed. The driver of the vehicle, who remains unidentified, fled from the spot,” said Sujeet Kumar Upadhyay, station house officer, Greater Noida Police station.

Police said the woman had been living in Greater Noida since the past few months after moving here from Bihar. They said the vehicle, bearing a UP registration number, has been seized and a FIR has been lodged under relevant sections.
