DDMA likely to impose further COVID curbs, lockdown off the cards

New Delhi, January 10: The Delhi Disaster Management in it’s meeting on Monday decided not to impose lockdown in the Capital.

Though, it discussed about imposing some other Covid curbs as cases continue to rise in the national capital.

According to officials, DDMA in it’s meeting discussed about imposing more restrictions such as closing dine-in facility in restaurants, and scaling down seating capacity in Metro trains and buses.

Presently restaurants & bars are allowed to function with 50% capacity to curb the Covid cases & the city busses & metros are permitted to operate with 100% seating capacity.

A senior official told HT, “All present in the DDMA meeting agreed that the trends in terms of rising positivity, hospitalisation and deaths are worrying. To mitigate these trends, further restrictions without creating disadvantage to the people are likely to be imposed. No lockdown will be imposed.”

The meeting was chaired by Lieutenant governor Anil Baijal. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Health Minister Satyendar Jain, revenue minister Kailash Gehlot, Chief Secretary Vijay Dev and other important officers of the Health Department of the Delhi Government were also present in the meeting.

The DDMA in it’s previous meeting on Tuesday decided to impose Weekend Curfew in the capital & has already implemented it along with night curfew & yellow alert in the Capital.

Delhi is facing a huge spike of COVID with 22,751 new cases being registered on Sunday. The positivity rate has jumped to 25.53% as per the state health bulletin on Sunday.
