New Delhi, 31 October 2022: The Delhi police have recently arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly tricking a woman by posing as an IPS officer on a matrimonial website.

This came after a woman complained to the police about meeting Mayank Kapoor on a marriage website in May.

He introduced himself to them as the joint director of the CBI and stated that he had also been assigned the additional responsibilities of the Anti-Terror Squad, National Investigating Agency, and Research and Analysis Wing.

Kapoor allegedly told the woman that he made between Rs 50 and Rs 70 lakh annually and he had an identity card showing that he was a special officer of the CBI.

The police claim that Kapoor modified an image of a CBI police officer’s identification card that he acquired from the internet in order to deceive the woman. Upon investigation, the suspect has been identified as Rohini Sector-19.

The complainant further told the police that Kapoor had borrowed Rs. 1.5 lakh from her, claiming he needed money because his bank account had been frozen as a result of a vigilance investigation.

The woman blocked Kapoor’s phone number after finding out about his real life. This infuriated him, according to the police, and he allegedly threatened her and shared their private photos with her neighbors.

According to Rohini Sector-15’s Deputy Commissioner of Police Pranav Tayal, Kapoor was taken into custody from a nearby park.

The DCP claimed that Kapoor had eloped with a woman, married her in 2013, and then moved in with her in Wazirabad. His wife accused him of molesting the following year, and they divorced in 2017. Soon after, he started making profiles ever since on dating apps and matrimonial websites.

He was arrested in Mumbai in 2019 after reportedly employing the same method to defraud a woman.
