GIMS Greater Noida Organises ‘Run for Swadeshi’ to Mark National Youth Day

GREATER NOIDA News (12/01/2025): The Government Institute of Medical Science (GIMS), Greater Noida, organised a special awareness and fitness programme titled “Run for Swadeshi” on Monday to commemorate National Youth Day, observed on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The initiative was held under the mentorship of Brigadier (Dr.) Rakesh Kumar Gupta and aimed at inspiring youth to embrace the ideals of self-reliance, discipline and national unity.

The event highlighted the relevance of Swadeshi values in contemporary India while promoting physical fitness, teamwork and social responsibility among students. Drawing inspiration from the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, the programme encouraged participants to channel their energy towards personal growth and nation-building.

The run was flagged off by Ranjana Verma, Dean (Examinations), GIMS, at the Gautam Buddha University campus, Academic Block. The programme featured a 2-kilometre run, followed by interactive and motivational sessions led by senior academicians and healthcare professionals.

Students from the College of Nursing and the Institute of Paramedical Sciences participated with enthusiasm, demonstrating high levels of energy, unity and commitment throughout the event. Their active involvement reflected the spirit of National Youth Day and the message of collective progress through self-discipline and service.

Several senior faculty members and administrators were present on the occasion, including Shivani Kalhan, Head of the Department of Pathology, GIMS Hospital; Manisha Singh, Principal, Institute of Paramedical Sciences; Neetu Bhadoriya; and other faculty members. Addressing the gathering, Kalhan underlined the growing importance of Swadeshi values in strengthening the country’s socio-economic framework, while Singh spoke about Swami Vivekananda’s enduring message of youth empowerment, self-belief and character building.

The programme concluded with a collective call to action, urging students to integrate Swadeshi principles into their everyday lives and professional pursuits. Participants were encouraged to contribute actively towards building a strong, self-reliant and united nation, in alignment with the vision laid down by Swami Vivekananda.

Manisha Singh, Principal, Institute of Paramedical Sciences said that, Swami Vivekananda’s teachings continue to guide and motivate us in building a stronger and self-reliant India. The youth must take responsibility for upholding Swadeshi values and contributing meaningfully to nation-building.
