A 30-year-old woman committed suicide on Thursday after killing her two children in Shakarpur area of East Delhi. A suicide note, scribbled on the bedroom wall, accused her husband of having an extramarital affair with his sister-in-law and the reason for taking the extreme step, police said. The victim’s husband and his elder brother were arrested thereafter. The victim Neetu Singh got married to software engineer Rahul Thakur in November 2008. “I love you Rahul but you never loved me… that’s why I quit,” Neetu apparently wrote on the wall.

Neetu and Rahul lived with daughter Tanish, 5, and two-year-old son Hrehan. While Neetu was a homemaker, Rahul worked as a software developer with an IT firm in Gurgaon. They lived on the second floor of a building in Shakarpur’s Sundar block. The first floor is occupied by Rahul’s mother Maya, elder brother Rajesh and his wife Shailaja, with whom Rahul was allegedly having an affair with.

The deaths came to light when Rahul returned home from office around 9.30 p.m. on Thursday. He spent some time on the first floor, but became suspicious when Neetu and children did not come downstairs as usual.

“Rahul found the main door of his house bolted from inside and Neetu did not respond to repeated knocks,” said a police officer. Rahul then raised an alarm and broke open the door. Neetu was found hanging from the ceiling fan, while Tanish and Hrehan were lying on the floor frothing at the mouth. “They were declared brought dead at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. We were informed by the hospital authorities at 11.20 p.m.,” the officer added.
