Higher Education Must Drive Exponential Growth to Make India a Developed Nation by 2047: Dr. H. Chaturvedi at AIMS 36th Foundation Day

New Delhi (31st August 2025): The Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS) marked its 36th Foundation Day with a thought-provoking celebration in New Delhi, focusing on the theme: “The Role of Higher Education in Making India a Developed Nation by 2047.” The event brought together top academicians, policymakers, industry stalwarts, and thought leaders from across the country to deliberate on the future of India’s higher education and its potential to transform the nation.
The event was graced by Dr. P. Dwarkanath, Chancellor of IILM University and former Group Head – HR at Max India Ltd., as the Chief Guest. Recognized for his exceptional leadership and contributions to both the corporate world and academia, Dr. Dwarkanath delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the need to harness education, innovation, and entrepreneurship to fuel India’s developmental aspirations.
Dr. H. Chaturvedi, Director General of IILM and Chairman of the Foundation Day Committee, delivered a compelling address setting the tone for the day’s discussions. Reflecting on the significance of the theme, he stated:
India cannot afford incremental growth if we aspire to become a developed nation by 2047. What we need is exponential growth, driven by transformative changes in higher education. In the next 22 years leading up to the centenary of independence, education must become the catalyst for national development.
Dr. Chaturvedi recalled the visionary thoughts of leaders like Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who in his book India 2020, and C.K. Prahalad, in his 2007 address in Washington, envisioned a developed India. “We are now at a critical juncture,” he added. “We must translate that vision into action through bold reforms and collaboration.”
He emphasized the role of faculty development, curriculum overhaul, research implementation, and industry-academia collaboration as key pillars for achieving this transformation. He cautioned that while many of today’s leaders may not be around in 2047, our students and educators will witness that future, and we must prepare them now to shape it.
“Challenge and Opportunity Must Go Hand in Hand for B-Schools”
In an exclusive conversation with Ten News Network, Dr. Chaturvedi shared his insights on the future of management education and the responsibilities of B-schools in nation-building.
The next two decades will be both challenging and full of opportunities for higher education institutions, he said. B-Schools cannot continue to operate with outdated practices. There is a pressing need to revamp curriculum, invest in faculty training, and focus on soft skills that prepare students for global competitiveness.
He urged educational institutions to collaborate closely with industry, adopt best global practices, and become centers of innovation and entrepreneurship. Unless we view our future through the dual lens of challenge and opportunity, we cannot grow, he stated.
Looking Ahead: Bhubaneswar to Host AIMS National Convention
Dr. Chaturvedi also announced that the upcoming Annual National Convention of AIMS will be held on December 30 in Bhubaneswar, led by Prof. R.K. Patra. He emphasized that this year’s convention will focus on “Connecting Thought, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship”—a theme that builds upon the discussions from the Foundation Day and seeks to connect the currently “unconnected dots” in India’s education ecosystem.
He added, Innovation and quality improvement are not optional—they are necessary if Indian education is to be globally competitive.
Message to Students: Be Lifelong Learners, Embrace the Challenges of a Globalized World
Addressing young professionals and students, Dr. Chaturvedi offered a powerful message: Don’t remain confined within closed boundaries. Collaboration with peers, faculty, and industry experts is key. Degrees alone won’t ensure success in a world facing massive disruptions—from AI to global trade wars. Develop the mindset of a lifelong learner, rise above inertia, and embrace the challenges of the present to build the future.
A Platform for Visionary Dialogue and Collaboration
The 36th Foundation Day event witnessed participation from leading B-schools, industry professionals, academicians, and education policymakers from across the NCR region and beyond. It featured inspiring addresses, panel discussions, and networking sessions, all aimed at fostering a unified vision for the future of Indian management education.
