IMA Demands Strict Action Against Punjab Health Minister for Humiliating and Ill-Treating Dr. Raj Bahadur VC, BFUHS

Punjab, 31 July 2022: The Indian Medical Association has strongly condemned the derogatory action by the Punjab Health Minister, Chetan Singh Jouramajra for humiliating Dr. Raj Bahadur, Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences on 29th July in Punjab.

“It is not only humiliation for the respected Vice Chancellor Dr Raj Bahadur, but the entire Medical Fraternity across India has been insulted,” urged the medical association.

During an inspection at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital (GGSMCH) in Faridkot, Jouramajra forced Vice Chancellor Dr. Raj Bahadur to lie on a filthy mattress in front of employees and patients. The Minister was also witnessed yelling angrily at the Vice Chancellor about the medical college’s lack of cleanliness.

Several medical associations and prominent individuals have taken offense to the incident and condemned the Health minister for insulting Vice Chancellor Dr Raj Bahadur who was a learned academician and well-respected Doctor and has done great work for the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences.

“There have been similar incidents causing humiliation and harassment to the medical community by many politicians. It causes anguish among the doctors. The dignity of the Doctor and work done by such a senior person must be respected,” stated the IMA demanding an immediate unconditional apology and resignation from the Health Minister of Punjab for his misbehavior.

The Indian Medical Association has also appealed to the Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann to immediately intervene and take necessary action against the Minister.
