In a significant statement that increases the Narendra Modi government’s leeway on liberalizing FDI rules, RSS has said it does not see itself as an economic fundamentalist. “We are not an economic fundamentalist. RSS is of the view that it is the government of India which should be making the decisions about what economic decisions are good for the country,” RSS leader Ram Madhav told PTI. Madhav also gave an unequivocal thumbs-up to the initiative to invite Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif along with other Saarc leaders to Modi’s swearing-in. “Our sincerity in establishing good relations with neighbours has been established. Secondly, our position as a strong, powerful nation in the region…both have been established,” Madhav said.

The BJP held protests in Noida and Ghaziabad on Thursday against the UP government for allegedly creating an artificial power crisis in the two NCR districts after the ruling Samajwadi Party lost from both the seats in the Lok Sabha polls. Power cuts after May 16 have been making life tough for people in the two districts.

Protests against the state government were led by senior BJP leaders at the Raj Nagar District Centre in Ghaziabad and near the city magistrate’s office in Noida’s Sector 19.
