As part of this initiative, we recently spoke to Dr. Kumar Sambhav, Director of the Uttar Pradesh Institute of Design.

Dr. Sambhav highlighted that the Uttar Pradesh Institute of Design, Noida a constituent Institute of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, has been striving since its inception in 2017 to transform into a model institution. Offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in design, along with an MBA program, the institute ensures holistic education for students from all streams. Moreover, the institute facilitates internships from the second semester itself, fostering practical skill development.

“Our efforts,” Dr. Sambhav emphasized, “are not only directed towards skill enhancement but also towards value-based education.” Aligning with the New Education Policy 2020, the institute aims to empower students to become self-reliant and entrepreneurial, equipping them to contribute meaningfully to society beyond merely seeking lucrative job opportunities.

The institute houses an incubation center, actively nurturing innovation and providing a conducive environment for students to thrive. “We not only focus on academic excellence but also prioritize the well-being of our students,” Dr. Sambhav added, highlighting the mentorship programs within the college aimed at promoting holistic health.

Recognizing the importance of staying updated with evolving technology, the institute regularly updates its curriculum to meet industry standards.

“In today’s era of higher education, the challenge lies in shifting the perspective of students from viewing education solely as a means to secure a high-paying job to understanding its broader significance,” Dr. Sambhav reflected. “Our endeavor is to bridge the gap between academia and industry, ensuring that our graduates are not just sought after by employers but are also equipped with the skills and mindset to drive meaningful change.”

Through such initiatives and a steadfast commitment to holistic education, the Uttar Pradesh Institute of Design is paving the way for a new generation of empowered and socially conscious professionals, ready to tackle the challenges of the future with confidence and purpose.
