In Gautam Buddh Nagar , Covid-19 safety protocols are only for commoners, Sahebs are immune

It was in the colonial era that there were two different set of rules — one for the gora British Sahebs and their kin and another for the commoners. Indeed, bless us lord, that we could finally move out of that unjust system of dual standards some 73 years ago.

Through a cursory look at the twin cities and one may feel like that Britishers have forgotten their colonial rule book , which is working as the go-to-guide for some new-age Sahebs.

Yes, we are talking about the pandemic related safety precautions, which is finding many takers among the commoners yet doesn’t seem to be a part and parcel of the life of city’s high and mighty.

Take for a instance, a recent event organised at a Institute in Greater NOIDA none the less and graced by who’s who of the city – including the MLAs of Noida and Jewar, and various key police officials, yet the most important thing missing from this multiple hour event was the Covid-19 safety protocols.

There were much festivities, dance and music during the intimate celebrations minus masks at the right place and social distancing.

Ironically, this happened a few days after the Commissioner of Police and District Magistrate, called a virtual meeting of RWAs to discuss the Covid-19 safety protocol and issued directions for them to be followed strictly.

But indeed these orders, it seems like were for commoners only.

As looking at this Holi milan event, just because the organisers were those who would have left no stone unturned to criticize and demean anyone else organising such gathering at this time of pandemic, hence the administration, the police, the law enforcement machinery preferred to not only stay mum but also joined in this mockery of safety protocols.

What would have the residents of Gautam Buddh Nagar / Uttar Pradesh thought seeing a crowd on a stage with 20 others, all at shoulder to shoulder distance, and paying no heed to a thing called mask?

More so, when district specific protocol orders were signed by the top cop on very next day. And only if, the violations would have stopped at it, there are still political meets, gatherings, get-togethers and Kirtans being organised continuously in the district, with large number of participants.

Must say, what a commendable, praiseworthy acts of the esteemed, who wish to be an example for the society yet do nothing as such.

If around, the gora shaebs must have be proud of such dual standards of rules.

“The imposition of section 144 to limit crowding, collection of big gatherings to combat covid resurgence has no meaning with permissions granted for such political, social, cultural gatherings in large numbers. Request DM,Police Commissioner, our espected MP & MLA to ensure strict implementation. Let us NOT lose precious lives due to resurgence of covid with our chalta hai attitude. I felt very sad to read this news article. The COVID cases are on rise. So, the partial lockdown with imposition of section 144 has been enforced. The complete education sector and commercial sector are under glitch. It’s one of the longest national disaster going on around in the present time, where following important rituals and adherence of cultural heritage have also become impossible. Nearest and dearest one are cremated even without bidding the last goodbye or without performing the last rites. A lifetime event for youngsters to start a new journey of life with the nuptial knot and to solemnise the wedding in presence of the august gathering of family and friends has been squeezed to a bare necessity. All distinguished universities of the world are conferring their degrees online which is a lifetime honour for a student’s life. Amidst such national emergency, how can these so called educated and dignified people agreed to have the funfair at Greater Noida to establish their ‘care for none’ and uncultured attitudes? Isn’t it a mockery of district administration too? What is the example they are putting in front of children and young adults that this society is led by “do as I say and don’t do as I do” dignitaries? As an educationist and social worker I feel disgusted and scared for the societal and administrative anarchy. सब को सन्मति दे भगवान।
