New Delhi (25/05/2023): Meta Platforms Inc., Facebook’s parent company, cut another round of employees across its business and operations units on Wednesday, completing the final phase of a three-part round of layoffs that the company announced in March.

Dozens of employees from marketing, site security, enterprise engineering, programme management, content strategy, and corporate communications announced their layoffs on LinkedIn.

According to the LinkedIn posts, the social media behemoth also laid off employees from its privacy and integrity teams.

The social network business announced on Wednesday that the new layoffs would affect approximately 490 people at its international headquarters in Dublin, or over 20% of its Irish workforce.

Avinash Pant, director of marketing, and Saket Jha Saurabh, director and head of media relations, were both let go from their crucial roles in India.

After laying off more than 11,000 employees in the autumn, Meta became the first Big Tech company to announce a second round of mass layoffs earlier this year. Following a hiring drive that doubled the company’s employees since 2020, the cuts have now reduced the company’s headcount to where it stood around mid-2021.

In March, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the majority of the layoffs in the company’s second wave will take place in three “moments” across several months, with the most of them wrapping up in May. He also suggested that several minor rounds could continue after that.

Overall, non-engineering roles have been struck the hardest, underlining the importance of individuals who develop code at Meta. Zuckerberg has promised to “substantially” restructure business teams and revert to a “more optimal ratio of engineers to other roles.”
