New Delhi, 02 September 2015. Young girls will drive taxis in Delhi like their men counterparts and would provide financial support to their families. Sampurna NGO has taken on itself the responsibility to make these girls taxi drivers and drivers of other vehicles.

Under the programme, Sampurna commenced Motor Driving training for 12 girls at its Shalimar Bagh Center. This training programme will be run in association with Coachmen Company.

Sushri Vimla Mehra, Addl. Commissioner of Police (Traffic), who was present on the occasion, said that time has come when like men, all Indian young girls should compete in areas dominated by men and become financially independent. This will help in the development of India and will also raise the self esteem of girls.

Quoting from her own life, Ms. Vimla Mehra said that society had reacted negatively when she was selected for police service. But she moved ahead undeterred by these comments and today she is Addl. Commissioner of Police (Traffic) of Delhi. There is no job small or big.

Dr. Shobha Vijender, founder of Sampurna NGO in his message said that Delhi will be the first state where people will see the girls working as Taxi Drivers and drivers of other vehicles. This is an important step towards women empowerment and to make them self relevant.

Ms. Kanak Mehra, head of Coachmen Company and Smt. Taruna Kataria, President, Sampurna was also present on the occasion.
