On Friday Noida authority ordered that they will not allow  e-rickshaws, taxies, auto-rickshaws and cycle rickshaws to be parked on the road of Sector 18 as it the city’s biggest commercial area and the congestion disrupts the smooth movement of traffic.

“If they want to stay in Sector 18 for their business then they will have to park their vehicles at a designated parking space and pay a fee. We will not allow them to stand in the middle of the road or roadside for the whole day, as it causes traffic jam and troubles visitors,” Sandeep Chandra, chief engineer of the Noida authority, said.

Thousands of visitors daily come to city’s busiest commercial hub for shopping, meetings, entertainment and work. But motorists, at times, have to face congestion and traffic jam during peak hours because of unauthorized parking and motorists pulling over in a random and haphazard manner.

From February 1, the Noida authority started an eight-floor multi-level car parking facility with a capacity to accommodate around 2,800 cars. However, the majority of motorists and taxi drivers do not park their vehicles in the multi-level parking lot and park at roadside , adding to the congestion.

“We have observed that taxi drivers, auto drivers and cycle rickshaw pullers are in the habit of parking roadside.

Sometimes, scores of these vehicles are seen parked in clusters at various places inside the market. This causes congestion, particularly during peak traffic hours in the evening on weekends when the number of visitors increase. Therefore, we have decided that no taxi or auto-rickshaw will be allowed to be parked on the road. The drivers should park in the designated area and wait for passengers,” Chandra said.

“We have made it clear to the contractor that only single lane parking should be allowed in Sector 18 and vehicles should not halt on road to ensure smooth flow of traffic,” Chandra said.
