March 2, New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department in its seasonal outlook for March to May predicted that western and adjoining areas of central India, northwest India including Delhi-NCR and northernmost parts of northeast India are likely to face a hotter summer than usual.

However, it will be less hotter (below normal) in Peninsular India & parts of east, northeast and Northern plains, said the IMD.

Meanwhile, IMD in Its monthly temperature forecast for March 2022 stated normal to below normal minimum temperatures are most likely over most parts of India except some parts of eastern, southeastern & northwestern peninsula during this month.

Furthermore, normal to below normal maximum temperatures are likely over most parts of the south peninsula & east & northeast India, whereas above normal maximum temperatures are most likely over many parts of western & central India.

For the plains, a ‘heat wave’ is when the maximum temperature is more than 40 degrees Celsius, and at least 4.5 notches above normal.

Meanwhile, a ‘severe’ heat wave is declared if the departure from normal temperature is more than 6.5 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD.
