Rimple & Harpreet Narula Present ‘A Story within A Story‘ at Amazon India Fashion Week A/W 2015
After their first outing at India Fashion Week last season, designer duo Rimple & Harpreet Narula presented unveiled their Autumn Winter 2015 line -‘A Story Within a Story’ at the Amazon India Fashion Week from 25th March – 29th March 2015 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
For this collection, the designers have revisited their love for travel and found inspiration in a mélange of cultures and historical periods. The influences include royals and nobility; tribal art and antique textiles that are treated as distressed prints which give the collection a modern twist. The collection is a functional Prêt-à-Porter line with each garment being a journey on its own, layers within layers and stories within stories that have subtle twists and surprises for the discerning fashion aficionado.
The Luxury Kitsch collection has various techniques and elements juxtaposed over one another yet has a sense of harmony.
Laser-cutting, crystal encrusted embroideries and old world cross-stitch leave an indelible mark on 1940s inspired silhouettes. The treatment of old textile patterns as prints on new generation hi-tech fabrics such as neoprene georgettes, silks and jerseys takes the garments to a new level thereby striking a delicate balance between the nostalgia of yesteryear’s and the modern times we live in. The collection is an amalgamation of Art meeting Form meeting Function and does not categorically follow any particular theme but in route finds one.

‘Rimple and Harpreet Narula’, the label was established in the year 2000. The aesthetic reflects their passion for couture as well as our rich and diverse textile and craft heritage.
The influence of craftsmanship of nomads, the wanderers and the travelling tribes as well as the vivid cultures of Central Asia and undivided India have been a constant source of inspiration to the designer duo. Their body of work reflects their passion for revisiting ancient Indian workmanship and gives it a contemporary twist. The journey as creators, artists and revivalists is to strike a balance between the two worlds and to keep the relevance alive, by ways of re interpreting crafts, developing a range of hand crafted textures- their repertoire is extensive. The silhouettes keep the edginess alive with a measured mix of kitsch and couture.
As designers, their take on the design process is intuitive while an out of the box approach to colors and fabrics gives their creations a singular vocabulary- elegant, experimental, and dramatic. The current fascination with nomadic cultures as well as their interest in the hi point of the Islamic art , has kept the duo busy with their upcoming collection that will be displayed at the India couture week.
