New Delhi, August 31, 2023: The Supreme Court’s reputation has fallen prey to cybercriminals as a fake website attempts to deceive users into sharing personal information and confidential data. The Supreme Court registry has issued a cautionary advisory to alert the public about the phishing attack and the potential risks involved.

The advisory reveals that a counterfeit website masquerading as the official Supreme Court website has been established using fake URLs. One of these URLs, specifically labeled ‘Offence of Money-Laundering’, is being exploited to pilfer people’s sensitive details, including bank credentials, internet banking information, credit card details, and PAN.

The deceptive website outlines the supposed offense and prompts users to input various details, such as bank names, contact numbers, PAN, ‘online banking user ID,’ ‘log-in password,’ and ‘card password.’

The advisory sternly cautions individuals against divulging any personal or confidential information through these URLs. It clarifies that the Supreme Court’s registry would never solicit personal, financial, or confidential data from users. “Please note that the Registry, Supreme Court of India, will never ask for personal information, financial details or other confidential information,” the advisory emphasizes.

The Supreme Court has promptly reported the phishing attack to law enforcement agencies to ensure a comprehensive investigation and legal action against the perpetrators. The advisory underscores the official domain of the Supreme Court of India as www.sci.gov.in and urges individuals to verify URLs before interacting with them.

For those who may have fallen victim to the phishing attack, the advisory recommends taking immediate action. “In case you have been a victim of the above phishing attack, please change your passwords for all your online accounts and also contact your bank and credit card company to report such unauthorised access,” it advises.
