B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students, Mr. Faiz, Mr. Abhishek Gupta, Mr. Raushan, Mr. Kamal Kishore, Mr. Amanullah Qumar Rehan, Mr. Aman Raj, Mr. Rohit Kumar, Mr. Vicky Patel and Mr. Jitendra, Ph.D. Scholar from School of Agriculture registered a start-up, “Farmer’s Friend” and have successfully developed a vermicompost unit in the orchard of Mr. Premraj Nagar at Kanarsa Kanarsi. This initiative is funded by Galgotias University.

The project began as part of a university initiative aimed at encouraging students to engage in community service, promote sustainable agricultural practices and foster economic growth in the local community of the region.

Vermicomposting is the process of using earthworms to convert organic waste into high-quality compost. The students designed and constructed the vermicompost unit using locally available, cost-effective materials.

The high-quality compost produced by the unit is a valuable resource for local farmers, reducing their reliance on expensive chemical fertilizers. This will lead to cost savings and potentially higher crop yields, improving the economic stability of the community.

Happy with the success of the pilot project, Dr. Dhruv Galgotia, CEO, Galgotias University shared that these efforts are an example of how academic knowledge can be harnessed to address real-world challenges and foster community development. He emphasised that University will scale up the project and introduce other sustainable farming techniques in the Gautam Budh Nagar region for the benefit of the community.

Suneel Galgotia, Chancellor, congratulated the team of students for their dedication and for reinforcing the university’s mission to create practical solutions that benefit the society directly.
