Ten News Exclusive: Here’s how Galgotias University is forging ahead in NEP implementation

It was for a reason that Prime Minister Modi hailed NEP as a transformational change which will give a new direction to the country in the 21st century, sowing the seeds for a new era.

Yet same as is the case with bringing any other major change, the biggest challenge with NEP also lies with its implementation. The policy demands a significant commitment for its implementation from all the stakeholders.

Indeed, one educational institution that has exuded such commitment and has emerged as a forerunner in the race of NEP implementation, is the Greater Noida based Galgotias University.

Galgotias is aiming to become the first educational institute in the country to fully implement NEP 2020 – an endeavor that has been well appreciated by Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal.

And the University recently took an oath to fully implement the NEP, in the presence of Union Education Minister and many other academic stalwarts, and also shared a well framed roadmap consisting of 12 steps that will take the university closer to full NEP implementation. The fine prints of it’s well-defined strategy are as follows:

1. As part of its resolve, The University plans to establish “Galgotias Vivekananda Research Centre” to create an environment for research and education techniques. The center will promote research that directly touches human lives, announced University CEO Dhruv Galgotia.

2. In line with promoting digital India and to make delivery of education more flexible, the University plans to introduce online programs and open distance learning

3. Walking the talk, University has already started revising syllabus according to NEP in order to establish interdisciplinary education

4. To introduce students to India’s rich heritage, Indian languages, dance, music, yoga etc, the University plans to establish “Atal Bihari Centre for Arts and Culture”

5. The University will frame a large institutional development plan to increase student participation and to ensure all round development of the students.

6. In order to meet these goals, competent faculty is a necessary requirement. To ensure active, skilled and competent faculties, the University will establish “Galgotias Center for Continuous Learning”.

7. The University has also decided to partner with renowned NGOs and industry for expansion of vocational education in the syllabus.

8. In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the University will open ‘Deendayal Upadhyaya Higher Quality Center’ for students from Social economic disadvantaged group (SEDG)

9. To cater to the needs of foreign exchange students, the University has already established “Galgotias International Cell” which is currently benefitting over 1,500 international students.

10. Growing domains of education require more focus. Hence the University will incorporate legal and healthcare education in the syllabus

11. The University will open adult education centers, one of these will be in Uttarakhand, the home state of Union Education Minister. It will be named after Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali as “Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Shiksha Kendra”

12. The University will open a separate department to inculcate value based education, community engagement and service, and environmental education. The department will be named as the “Galgotias Center for Adoption of Ancient and Modern Measures in Adult Education”.

All in all, with such exhaustive, holistic and multidisciplinary education system under the new education policy, Galgotias once again looks forward to it’s esteemed name and rich legacy, that has made it a pioneer in the field of education.
