#TripleTalaq judgement postponed to 2nd January
The revised bill to make instant Triple Talaq a punishable offence got stalled in Rajya Sabha today. After opposition demands for a select parliamentary committee for further scrutiny of the bill, the house was adjourned till January 2. The real challenge for the bill, passed by the Lok Sabha, is in the upper house, where the government lacks the numbers. Triple Talaq, the practice of Muslim men to instantly divorce their wives by uttering "Talaq" thrice, was declared "unconstitutional" by the Supreme Court in a landmark judgment last year.
