9th June 2015: At a thought provoking seminar on “Police & Judicial Reforms” held by ALL Ladies League in association with Pioneer, India’s oldest English daily at India International Centre (IIC), Dr. Harbeen Arora, Global Chairperson of ALL Ladies League, a global women’s chamber, said that women across the country want the power to approach police without fear and for that want the ability to file FIRs online. This will enable them to report their problems more as the fear and perceived harassment of going to a police stations will not be there. Not just women, online FIRs will empower other vulnerable groups like children and senior citizens too. In fact online citizen vigilance portals should also be launched where if anyone anywhere sees some suspicious activity or knows of a wrongdoing., that can be reported and police patrol or action can be suitably stepped up in that area. To restore the faith of the masses in the system and to involve citizens in making a secure society, online FIRs and vigilance portals can be the most promising and effective way”.

Other stalwart speakers at the seminar were Mr. Bhim Sain Bassi, Police Commissioner, Delhi; Dr. Pinky Anand, Additional Solicitor General of India; Dr. Chandan Mitra, Member of Parliament, BJP, Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh and Editor-in-Chief and Managing Director, The Pioneer; and Amit Mitra, Vice-Chairman of the Pioneer who moderated the session very effectively and said that the media should come together to solve the major issues in society today.
