USA, 28th July 2023: X, the social networking platform formerly known as Twitter, has now demanded that advertisers spend at least $1,000 per month on ads or risk losing their verified status on the platform.
According to The Wall Street Journal, X notified advertisers that starting August 7, they risk losing their verified gold checkmark if they haven’t spent $1,000 on ads in the preceding 30 days, or $6,000 in the past 180 days.
In response to a tweet that cited the article, Elon Musk owner and former CEO of X stated that organisations might also pay. He said, “$1000/month for a verified organisation subscription with the ability to convey that organisational authority to affiliates. This more than pays for itself in organic reach.”
Musk stated that the “moderately high bar” for a verified organisation on the platform was set to prevent “scammers” from registering “millions of accounts.”
According to the Wall Street Journal, Twitter is offering a 50 percent discount on all new ad reservations until July 31. According to X, the reductions will allow advertisers to “gain reach during crucial moments” such as sporting events.
