Book “Paper to Screen – The Future of Education” by Dr. Vikas Singh for helping in migration to online education !

Greater Noida (27/04/2020) : Dr. Vikas Singh, Executive Director of ITS Education Group , Greater Noida has authored a very timely book on use of Online Education in place of regular class room teaching. This book is written with a purpose to help the fellow teachers, students, and parents during the lockdown that is happening because of pandemic COVID 19.

Mr Sohil said that all academic institutions have been closed for indefinite period and government is trying to control the spread of this deadly virus. This Global pandemic has confined people to their homes and social distancing is the new norm. All the schools, colleges, and universities have been shut down and all academic activities on the campuses have been suspended. The pandemic situation is still evolving and there is no fixed time line as to when the academic activities will begin again in the campuses. It is a fact that only a few teachers had been involved in the use of online teaching before the lockdown in both school education as well as higher education. Faculty members who have only taught in the classrooms using chalk and talk method are finding this transition to online teaching to be a daunting task.
The author feels the problem area is more with teachers and parents rather than students. Students are very technology savvy nowadays and are using smartphones for so many of their daily chores and activities. The transition for them to online education will be the easiest.
These books ihelp teachers understand the nuances of how to conduct interactive video lectures which can replace the actual classrooms and how to share class notes, assignments, cases with students and evaluate their learning and performance.

This book has six small chapters.
Chapter 1 discusses how to manage lights, camera, and action and come out as a hero before your students. How to look your best and communicate loudly and professionally before the camera and create a lasting impact on your online audience is covered in this chapter. It also covers the available free to use online meeting software. .

Chapter 2 discusses about the Learning Management Systems and online assessment tools. These tools will allow you to use your existing class material into an online format and also ensure a good learning experience for the students. Also the online tools for conducting effective formative assessment are covered in this chapter.

Chapter 3 suggests the ways to engage students in online teaching through learning activities, interesting content, and having an effective interaction with an objective to achieve learning outcomes. This is one very important and crucial area to learn for a teacher for successful transition to online education from classroom teaching.

Chapter 4 looks at the role of academic administrators and quality assurance cell of the institutions. It discusses the tools available to ensure that the teaching-learning process and evaluation process continues effectively. The attainment of learning outcomes is very crucial and should not get compromised cause of these difficult times.

Chapter 5 discusses the effective role which can be played by parents in ensuring a good learning experience for their wards while attending online lectures sitting at home. This is an altogether new experience for parents as well and they’re also seeing it the first time that their wards are using the screen time while at home in some productive and learning work. How parents can encourage their wards and maintain a conducive environment at home is the discussion point in this chapter.

Chapter 6 highlights that once Covid19 scare is over and the pandemic has been conquered by mankind then what is going to be permanent learnings for the education sector from this big disruption. What good practices can be taken forward and how actually we can have a blended learning environment and flipped classroom experience for the students in the future as well.
