Gautam Buddha University to Host 27th CEC-UGC Educational Film Festival from March 27

Greater Noida News (26/03/2026): The Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), an inter-university centre of the University Grants Commission (UGC), is set to organise the 27th edition of its prestigious Educational Film Festival at Gautam Buddha University from March 27 to 28, 2026. The two-day event will bring together filmmakers, academicians, students, and media professionals to celebrate the role of cinema in education and social awareness.
CEC, which serves as the nodal agency for electronic media in higher education, has been actively developing and distributing educational content through digital platforms. By leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the organisation promotes accessible and inclusive learning, including initiatives such as sign language-supported content for Divyang learners and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for flexible, on-demand education.
Speaking at a pre-event press conference, Prof. (Dr.) Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director of CEC, highlighted the growing importance of visual storytelling in education. He emphasised that meaningful collaboration between academicians and filmmakers can create impactful content that not only informs but also inspires transformation. He further noted that such initiatives align with India’s long-term vision of achieving a developed nation status by 2047.
Echoing similar sentiments, Prof. Rana Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Gautam Buddha University, described the festival as a convergence of creativity, technology, and academic excellence. He stated that hosting the event reinforces the university’s commitment to interdisciplinary learning and innovative knowledge dissemination, while also encouraging students and educators to explore new dimensions of education.
The CEC-UGC Educational Film Festival, first launched in 1988, has evolved into a prominent platform showcasing documentary filmmaking with strong educational and social themes. Over the years, it has facilitated dialogue among stakeholders from academia, media, and development sectors, fostering critical engagement with contemporary issues.
This year’s edition, aligned with the national vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047,” received an impressive 320 entries. After a rigorous selection process, 19 films have been shortlisted for screening during the festival. The event will also feature an award ceremony recognising excellence across 12 categories, with cash prizes ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹1,00,000, along with certificates and trophies.
Among the major winners, The Scientist Who Runs at Night by Mithun Pramanik and The Divine Sculptor – Arun Yogiraj by Chandra Kumar P.H. jointly secured the Best Film/Documentary Award. The Best Short Film honour went to Unseen Tears, produced by Kongbrailatpam Geetchandra Sharma. Other categories recognised achievements in research, scriptwriting, cinematography, editing, sound design, animation, and academic contributions, including innovative lectures and MOOCs.
CEC officials also underlined that the festival not only acknowledges filmmakers but also honours educators and researchers contributing to digital education through content creation. The initiative aims to nurture socially responsible youth capable of contributing meaningfully to nation-building.
The event will be attended by prominent dignitaries, including Prof. Manhas, Prof. Rana Pratap Singh, Dr. Sunil Mehru, Joint Director of CEC, and other academic leaders. Students, faculty members, and members of the public have been invited to participate in the screenings and discussions, making it an inclusive platform for learning and engagement.
With its focus on integrating education and media, the festival continues to play a significant role in promoting an ICT-driven learning ecosystem and encouraging content that addresses diverse social, scientific, and cultural themes.
