Telangana (India), February 19, 2023: In a swift move, Telangana Police on Sunday detained Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Telangana Party (YSRTP) chief YS Sharmila for allegedly making inappropriate remarks against the Mahabubabad MLA and BRS leader Shankar Naik.

The police registered a case against her under Section 504 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 3(1) of the SC ST POA Act. Sharmila has been moved to Hyderbad to avoid any law and order issues in the town of Mahabubabad.

The incident occurred when Sharmila was addressing a public meeting and reportedly attacked the Mahabubabad MLA for not fulfilling his promises. “You gave many promises to the people, which you have not fulfilled.” “If you are not fulfilling your promises, that means you are a kojja [castrate],” she said.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) members then staged a protest against her in the district, with protestors showing their anger by sloganeering “Go Back Sharmila” and burning the hoardings and flexes of the party.

The police’s move to detain Sharmila has been viewed as an effort to maintain law and order in the state.
