Instances of lack of coordination between different police stations of Gautam Buddh Nagar and lack luster attitude of some junior to medium level police personnel is becoming a great cause of concern for the public.

The recent instance in this regard is about a Manipuri boy whose missing report was registered at one police station on Sunday and his dead body was found on the same evening by another police station. However the police personnel failed to connect the dots and cremated the body as unidentified on Wednesday. All this while when deceased’s family kept the search on.

What Exactly Happened?

On Friday a musical concert was organized at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida. Pravish Chanam, a Manipuri Student came to attend it with his group of friends. However when the concert ended, his friends were unable to find him. After searching within their circles, a complaint was lodged at Knowledge park police station of Greater Noida on Saturday by his brother Ravikanata.

On the Sunday itself a dead body was found around 5:30 PM near a car market in Noida’s Nithari village. Nithari Police took body to the district hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Police kept his body in the mortuary for three days and cremated him on Wednesday, claiming his identity had not been established. The youth’s family now alleges police negligence and lack of coordination as a missing person’s complaint was filed at Knowledge Park police station on September 9.

Top cop acts tough:

As per reports Gautam Buddh Nagar SSP Love Kumar has admitted that there was lapse in police response and investigation.

Three cops namely sub-inspector Kishori Raman and constable Sanjeev Kumar attached to Knowledge Park police station and Nithari Police chowki in-charge Rakesh Babu have been suspended in this case. Knowledge Park police station SHO, Akhilesh Tripati, was also sent to police line for dereliction of duty. Police is also investigating the matter further.

Not a first case of negligence:

Not very long ago, when Jewar Gangrape case was resolved, it also came to light that while STF-Police teams were combing in villages and cities across different states in the search of accused’s, the criminals were actually arrested and further released on some other charge by Sector-58 Noida police.

On July 23, the Noida police had nabbed Jewar Gang Rape accused’s Ashok alias Raju, Rakesh and Deepak (all of whom were arrested by Sector 58 police on June 13 and subsequently released on bail on June 28), and their accomplice, Jai Singh (35), after a shootout. During last arrest of these accused’s, Sector 58 police had also arrested Monu, who is also accused in the Jewar gang-rape case and later remain absconding.

SO Dilip Singh Bisht of sector-58 police station faced departmental action for failing to properly investigate the criminals.

Suspensions are good deterrent but what about training?

Two months back when IG (Rules and Manuals) Amitabh Thakur visited Noida he minced no words to say that police regulation is not completely being followed by field officials and many of the police personnel seem to have forgotten it as well.

During that visit he had said, “While purpose of my visit was to know the clauses that might have become futile and get some inputs on necessary updates, I am really surprised to note that many police officials here are unaware of police manual and its rules and regulations”.

Under present circumstances it might be considered to impart coordination and investigation training to concerned police officials, so that further such instances can be checked, at-least in the district.
