Will #YogiAdityanath impose liquor ban in Uttar Pradesh?

Lucknow, March 22: The newly elected Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath in his unscheduled farewell speech in the Lok Sabha on Monday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state will close down all ‘illegal’ abattoirs in the state. There are speculations that the next ban that the newly elected Chief Minister would announce would be a liquor ban. If alcohol is banned in Uttar Pradesh, it will join the league of Gujarat, Bihar, Nagaland and Manipur as well as in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep which will permit the sale of alcohol.

The other things that the government in Uttar Pradesh has stated working on “anti-Romeo squads” that were promised by the Bharatiya Janata Party as a big step towards the safety of women. To check incidents of eve-teasing and passing of comments, these squads will be formed first in the 11 districts that fall under Lucknow zone. Reports state that they will be stationed at educational institutions and public places. The aim of the “anti-Romeo squads” is to ensure the safety of girls and prevent any incidents of eve-teasing.

Adityanath has also directed the Uttar Pradesh police to prepare an action plan to shut illegal slaughterhouses to put an end to illegal activities. The Chief Minister reportedly asked district police chiefs to show ‘zero tolerance’ toward those who are involved in such illegal activities.

Adityanath, a long-time BJP member from Gorakhpur said in the Lok Sabha that he will curb anti-social elements in Uttar Pradesh. In his speech, Adityanath stated, “Agey agey dekhiye kya kya band hoga (Just wait and watch what else will be closed in future). “We will work to make the state free of corruption, rowdyism and hooliganism. We will present a development model which will prevent distress migration of youths for jobs,” he further added. In its election manifesto, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) promised that if it comes to power in the state, it will shut down all ‘illegal’ things.

Adityanath, a long-time Bharatiya Janata Party member from Gorakhpur, told the Lok Sabha that he will curb anti-social elements in the country’s most populous state. “We will work to make the state free of corruption, rowdyism and hooliganism. We will present a development model which will prevent distress migration of youths for jobs,” he said.
